About the Artist
Larry Johnson's artwork shows his
appreciation for nature and his ability to capture the scenes that he
has experienced.
He was born and raised in a small
southeastern Oregon town of Lakeview. He enjoyed the early years
hunting and fishing with his father, a logger, that taught him about the
moods of the four seasons. His mother encouraged him by taping his
early art on the walls of their home.
Five years of architectural
training at the University of Oregon added the formal and artistic
training. The area's rain-filled coastal streams, fog-laden
mountains and ocean beaches added more inspiration. Following
those studies he went on to the L.A. Art Center College of Design in Los
Angeles to study architectural and industrial illustration. Larry
worked as an architectural illustrator and graphic designer for many
years after his formal studies. He always found time for painting
throughout his career.
Larry semi-retired in late 1963
when he realized the sales from his part-time art almost equaled his
full-time salary. From 1964 to 1983 Larry had the reputation of
one of the nation's top wildlife artists. He has been featured in
magazines such as Ducks Unlimited, Western Outdoors and the Northwest
Sportsman. He won many awards as he traveled throughout the United
States. Numerous galleries represented his art.
Finding it necessary to postpone
his art career, he returned to the "corporate" world until a few years
ago when he was transferred to the Midwest. Vowing to return to
his art, the move gave Larry the opportunity to travel and experience
the unlimited opportunity for new subjects.
Now retired, Larry divides his
time between the Midwest and the Pacific Northwest to participate in art
shows, display in galleries and teach workshops throughout the nation.
He continues to be featured in magazines such as the Country Pleasures
and the Herald & News. In 2005 and 2006, Larry was one of the
featured artists in art shows in Oregon, Washington and California.info@larrys-art.com
